Development Boom in Downtown St. Pete

St. Pete’s Changing Skyline

downtown st peteSt. Petersburg’s downtown area will see 17 major projects with nearly $500 million in construction soon. The additions of high rises, condos, apartments, museums and the new $85 million police headquarters are among the developments the area is undergoing in its building boom.

Developers are tuning into the desire for people who want to own, not rent, in Downtown St. Pete. In addition to the popularity of the current Beach Drive condo towers, two more are on the horizon. ONE St. Petersburg, due to be completed this year, will be the tallest building on the west coast of Florida with 41 stories; the land was purchased in 2014 for $17.5 million. The other is a 40- to 50-story residential and mixed-use tower on Central Avenue planned by billionaire businessman John Catsimatidis; the two-acre, 400-block lot was purchased in 2017 for $16.5 million with construction slated to begin this summer.
